Sergey Kovalev’s team are convinced that a deal could be agreed to combat Saul’Canelo’ Alvarez in November, but there is a catchweight not on the table at discussions. The Russian light-heavyweight, the WBO champion, will be the front runner to be another opponent for star’Canelo’, who’s targeting a world title in a fourth fat branch. Terms could not be agreed in time for Kovalev to confront Alvarez in September, which meant’Krusher’ defended his belt having the 11th round stoppage win over the Anthony Yarde of Britain, however discussions have resumed more than a bout on November 2. When asked whether there was optimism over an agreement, Kathy Duva, CEO of Main Events who promote Kovalev, told Sky Sports:”Yes, maybe.” With the 36-year-old having held a world title on three occasions through an extremely successful effort in 175lbs but Duva ruled out any discussion regarding Kovalev meeting Canelo at a weight. Kovalev had confirmed prior to the Yarde fight that financial reward was available for a battle with’Canelo’ and had expected that success would pave the way. “Yeswe had a deal,” he explained. “The offer was a substantial one. “My principal task is to guard the name. If the struggle is still fascinating to Canelo, then ok. “This battle provides us an opportunity to fight Canelo later on.” Read more here:
